It’s been a while since I’ve blogged - I know. And so much has happened, so today I will make a few posts. I’ve told several of you these stories, but I’m putting them in the blog nonetheless. We’ll begin with two weeks ago.
California - The Journey
Getting from the east coast to the west coast is no joke. I ended up with around 22 hours of traveling time from my apartment to the Ontario airport. I flew out of Newark and when I get there I grab some froyo and a slice of pound cake. I figured on my layover I might be hungry so I decided to save it for later. Then I’m sitting next to this woman who is talking with her I assume husband.
Woman: (Wisconsin-eque voice) She said the restaurant was really good. You HAVE to get the mussels!
Man: I already got ‘em.
Woman: (Pauses) Oh! That’s funny Dave! Yes you do!
It took me a second to realize the joke and then I wanted to turn to them and say really?
We ended up being delayed a half hour - no biggie - so I thought. Then we board the plane and as we’re all ready to go the flight attendants look around and say, “Something is missing...” Oh right, the pilot. So then we have to wait forty minutes for the pilots to get in from Chicago and come to our plane. I’m in first class (which is LOVELY) and my high maintenance fellow first class peeps are starting to get restless, and every couple of minutes one of the flight attendants gets on the speaker and says the same thing. The guy next to me was starting to crack.
Once the pilots arrived they find out that everything is completely backed up and we have to wait two hours on the plane before we can leave. The flight attendants put in an Adele concert on the one TV (my nightmare). There were many complaints and it was switched to The Avengers (too bad I had already seen it). The flight attendant kept coming over the intercom and the guy next to me was like “If that ---- talks one more time I’m gonna ------------------, I swear I’m gonna do it.” This prodded me to make conversation with him. Turns out he was on the same flight two years ago and that they didn’t leave until 1am. Barf. The woman in front of me was going into hysterics and crying, calling every relative and friend on her phone to complain. And everyone else was getting antsy and more and more mean towards the flight attendants.
I get to Colorado and was given a hotel room at the Renaissance. Unfortunately I only got to stay for like three hours because my flight was at 5am. It was a really nice room though...
On my way to the hotel a woman was talking on the phone about the delay and she was like "You gotta laugh, cause you can't cry!" That's how I felt on the plane, because I did chuckle several times.
I then fly into San Francisco and have to wait two hours for my flight, which then turns into three. That is what broke me. I could handle the no sleep, the four hour delay the previous day, but another delay so close to Ontario put me over the edge. That is when I wanted to cry, I didn’t, but I was close. Finally I got to Ontario and dinker Dixie doo was waiting for me by baggage claim and that was the best!
