I was extremely lucky. My neighborhood was completely unaffected. The most I saw on my walk today was a massive part of a tree that had fallen into the street on the upper part of Museum Mile. No damage was done.
I was super nervous before the storm, because the reports were saying it was gonna be like Day After Tomorrow. This was true for lower Manhattan and the parts close to water.
The view from my window during Sandy. Yep, it looks like a typical slightly damp windy evening. Because that's all it was for me.
I had electricity, cable, and water the entire time. And if the tree across the way had fallen, the red lights in that pic are the firehouse, so I had a rescue team 50 feet away.
And today UES is completely unfazed.
People were shopping and there was a huge line at Dunkin' Donuts.
The flowers are still in tact, and cabs are running.
The worst part for me was cabin fever, and I was tempted to pull a Muppet Treasure Island. I watched sooooo many movies and am all caught up on my DVR.
I am worried about Paige and Becca's stupid cat in Spanish Harlem. They're both out of town and I fed her over the weekend, but yesterday and today I can't get to her. She has two large bowls of food and three bowls of water, so she should be fine. If Paige's flight is cancelled tomorrow I'll go buy cat food and trek it up there.
I don't like Spanish Harlem. Like it is terrifying, the smells can be vomit inducing at some parts, and the scary Harlem gynecology place makes me cringe so badly. And Paige's apartment is that of a scuzz monkey's. Which are other reasons I'm worried for that feral cat.
Now I should probably work on homework I've been neglecting. Even though I have a week off of school...
Now I can't get that stupid Sandy song out of my head. So when I visit I guess I am staying at your place not Paiges from the reviews you are giving.
ReplyDeleteBetter say nice things about Paige's place quick so that your mom will stay there!
