Laundry Day

Sometimes New York is not my favorite and my best.

I had to go to the laundromat - which is not my favorite thing, especially on a rainy day, and after going for a year and a half it gets tiring. Normally there aren't a ton of people there, maybe a few, and there's a nice little seating area where you can read magazines from three years ago and listen to the same Asian song on repeat (I think it has to do with the Buddhist shrine).

I get to the laundromat and there are like eight Asian tourists taking up the sitting area laughing and giggling and their laundry took up the big machines, even though they barely filled them. I was annoyed, but whatever, got my small machine and had to sit in the back with the one lone chair, and I read some Agatha Christie.

My clothes are in the dryer and this chick starts getting up in my grill trying to fold clothes behind me, annoying, but again whatever. Then this big black woman comes over and was like "SCUSE ME, you need to move." I complied and shifted over, and she was like "No I need to be right here. GET OUT THE WAY." So I got up, and she grabbed my chair and took up my spot folding clothes. I WAS PISSED. But I wasn't going to challenge her, it reminded me of a conversation with Maigan a few months ago.

Maigan: If I had a problem with a girl named Caitlin I would -
Jeff: Can we change the name to Tanisha?
Maigan: Okay, if I had a problem with Ta - Oh no, wait. I would NOT have a problem with Tanisha.

So I'm left standing awkwardly like, what am I supposed to do? The owner saw me and found me a seat with the tourists. They were all trying to learn English via their smart phones. They were absolutely tickled with the word "assistance." They kept having Siri repeat it, and then they would say it, exaggerate, giggle, and repeat. This lasted for far too long. Normally I would have found it funny, but I was not a happy camper.

My next apartment MUST have laundry, I just can't do it any more. And I have to find a new apartment, this is not fun.

On the bright side, the Olympics have been pretty fabulous. I was sad for the London diving team flubbing near the end - they were doing so well and are so cute.
