Today I learned that I can add to my resume "Mouse Whisperer."
When we got home from our trip we discovered mouse poop all on our bottom pantry shelf. Mom bought mouse traps and we've waited. Today I had my first mouse sighting - this little grey Remy ran into the kitchen and hid under the stove - I shouted "Mouse!" And was obviously freaked out. We discovered that the mouse had a secret passage between the stove and pantry. Hailey and I left to go see Frozen and when we came back mom was pulling out of the driveway to dispose of the dead mouse in a nearby park. (You're welcome, kids).
Come to find out, she had not gotten my mouse. As I was sitting in the kitchen he once again ran out of the pantry and under the stove. Mom tried to wait for him, but he had disappeared. Then I hear rustling in the pantry and we found out this mouse likes chocolate and salt water taffy - we found empty wrappers of both and he tried chewing through a box of See's. Obviously, getting into Mom's See's made this personal. She couldn't hear the mouse, but I could, so she kept calling me over, and I'd direct her to the general area, but he kept hiding. Finally, I go into the pantry and squat on the ground and out he pops on top of the containers of margarita mix.
I started talking to the mouse like he was a baby. I do not like rodents, yet this little guy made me put on my pet voice and I was just like "Mouse, mouse, mouse, mouse, hey mouse." And he would pop his little head out and say hi to me, then go back into his corner. I'd call him again and he'd pop out and do the same thing. Mom said, "Caitlin..." because now I had become attached and she wanted him out.
She came back over to try to find him, caught a glimpse of him, and also discovered that he had taken a starburst from the trap and was eating it. He refused to come out from his hiding place from her, so I told her to call him nicely. Instead she says "Mouse" in the deepest man voice possible. He didn't go for that. Instead he pulled a Garth and was like "Excuse me, I'd like to get by now," and totally snuck around her (Hailey and I watched) to the other side of the pantry.
He's super smart.
So now we wait for him to escape her traps.
I really hope I don't wake up tomorrow to mom holding a dead mouse in a trap over my head...
As of today the counts still sits at 7
