Theatre Lab: Day One

Today was the first day of the theatre lab - excitement! It was really good. Today the mentors, directors, and three playwrights, along with our playwright in residence Kristoffer Diaz got together and did readings of each play. The point of the lab is to really dig into our scripts, do rewrites, and come up with something stronger and more polished. After my reading Diaz was like "You have a talent, you know comedy. You have the makings of a television writer." How awesome is that? And everyone else was just like comedy is such a hard thing, but you do it so well. And my director was like "This feels like an extended SNL sketch and I love it." They also had such helpful comments for what to do with the story, and I'm beyond excited to start reworking this thing. The other two plays are interesting, one is a drama set in the summer of '77 and has to do with car arson, and the other is a sort of coming of age story that centers around OWS - and then you have my absurd comedic piece. A little bit of everything.

And I obviously enjoyed the ego boost.
