Today I was walking to the train and this homeless guy was like "Hey gorgeous, all I want is a smile! Can I get a smile?" Normally I hate when people do that, but today I was in a good mood - I had just eaten a delicious crepe, and my ASL teacher told me how awesome I was. So I smiled, and he said "Thanks! Now I'm gonna bless you. I bless you with peace and prosperity!" And all I could think was "Thank you Voodo Mama Juju, that means so much coming from you."
On Saturday Julia and I were watching Penelope with our window opened and at the end of the movie it started pouring outside. Julia is leaving in a couple of weeks and won't be back in NYC until 2014, so she needs as many magical NYC moments as she can get. So then I decided it would be a PERFECT idea to go out to Madison Square Park in the rain and explore without an umbrella. It was probably one of my favorite New York things ever. And then we came back and watched the Mormon Pride and Prejudice, because our cable was out, and who doesn't love this face?
Which means since 12:30am Sunday morning until just now, I have been without cable and internet. I called Time Warner and they were like "Ma'am CALM DOWN" when I was super pleasant! I'm the nicest person ever to customer service reps. Apparently there was a regional outage, even the owner of my building came to my apartment and was like "You're an independent lady, so I figured you would know whats going on with the cable. Do you know what's going on?" I had to call Time Warner for my building.
Speaking of the owner of my building - quick digression - I was in the elevator with him (This is the owner, not the lurker) and Julia and he was like "Your guy Mitt Romney! He's doing good!" We were so taken aback. Julia is super liberal, and I was like "How is Mitt my guy?" Turns out he knew we were Mormon, I don't know how, but we gave him the blankest expression and he was like "You know, Mitt, Mitt Romney? That's his name right? I saw one of your friends is Mormon, so I thought you guys were too..." End of digression.
There is nothing like going a day without Time Warner to realize how much you depend on it. I also realized I am extremely productive without the internet, I wrote half a paper, did the majority of another paper, wrote a write up, and did some reading. But I missed the premiere of RHONJ, couldn't watch Once Upon a Time (some girl spoiled who the author guy is via fb on my phone - the jerk), missed Mad Men, and didn't get to see Ice Loves Coco or Khloe and Lamar. Obviously Sunday is the best day for television. But, I'm actually super thankful for the 24hrs without both the internet and cable. But I'm also thankful that I'll be able to watch the season finale of Rupaul's Drag Race tonight...
